Meet the New Board Members: 2020

Almost every year, the Women’s Leadership Forum of Greater Philadelphia (“WLF”) accepts nominations for Board positions from its member companies. To start, each board member holds a two-year term as a co-chair on a specific committee, after which time they may elect to stay on their committee for another term, apply to serve as a co-chair for a new committee, or apply to sit on the executive board in an officer role.

There are four committees: programming, membership, external affairs, and marketing and communications. This year we welcomed eight new members across all of the committees; below you can get to know just a few of them a little bit better through by understanding their professional goals and what makes them excited to be a part of the WLF.

Carolyn Finney, External Affairs

What is a professional goal of yours for the year and how are you working on it?

I want to obtain Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. I am currently reviewing programs at several schools that offer prep courses.

What is one thing that excites you about the WLF?

There are many successful women at all levels and in various industries that are a part of the organization. I am excited to work with such a diverse group of women, but equally excited about what I can learn from everyone!

Chrystina Cappello, Marketing & Communications

What is a professional goal of yours for the year and how are you working on it?

I would like to be a more present and helpful coach, mentor, and sponsor to those in the workplace. I am listening to the Radical Candor Podcast, have started a notebook to record coaching conversations, and am signing up for executive coaching.

What is one thing that excites you about the WLF?

I like that it is approachable and Philadelphia-based. I'm always looking to meet new, awesome people in Philadelphia, especially because I travel outside the state for work a lot, and this seems like a great opportunity to do so!

Elena Smirnova, Programming Committee

What is a professional goal of yours for the year and how are you working on it?

To successfully complete a Management Development Program I am currently working on and be promoted to Audit Manager in fall of 2021.

What is one thing that excites you about the WLF?

An opportunity to meet and engage with like-minded women from different organizations.

Sam Colloi, Marketing and Communications

What is a professional goal of yours for the year and how are you working on it?

Improve well-being not just for myself but for my teams, by encouraging mental health breaks and taking time to fully disconnect. I am listening more thoroughly and setting up bi-weekly catch up calls with each team member.

What is one thing that excites you about the WLF?

To be connected to such successful and influential women of all backgrounds in the Philly area.

Tiffany Thomas, Membership

What is a professional goal of yours for the year and how are you working on it?

I am preparing myself for a career pivot into Human Resources (HR). I have been using this time to network with recruiters and other individuals to introduce myself and discuss my goals. It has been very successful so far.

What is one thing that excites you about the WLF?

The ability to connect with women from different backgrounds, industries, across all organizations. Camaraderie is what we need especially during these uncertain times.
